We understand that applying to a school can be stressful, so we strive to make the admissions process as simple and friendly as possible.

Children are evaluated on the basis of readiness for school and potential for success in a Montessori classroom.  It is equally important to determine whether the parent’s educational philosophy is compatible with that of Ruffing Montessori School. Ruffing Montessori School welcomes all qualified individuals regardless of gender, race, color, creed, disability, national or ethnic origin.

The admissions process consists of a parent observation visit, submission of an application form and non-refundable $50.00 registration fee, and a parent, child and teacher meeting.

Parent Tour and Observation

We encourage both parents to visit the school. When you visit you will tour the facility and observe children in their daily learning activities in the classrooms. Please fill out an Observation Request Form or call the main office at (440) 333-2250 to schedule an appointment for a tour/observation. Tours begin at the end of October and begin at 9:00am, lasting approximately 1 1/2 hours. If you call the office to set up an observation and tour, please complete and submit the Observation Request Form prior to your visit.


Complete the On-Line Application and submit the $50 application fee.   Acceptance decisions are made on a rolling basis and most decisions are made by early March.

Parent, Child and Teacher Meeting

In January, we call applicants to arrange a mutually agreeable parent/child/teacher meeting.  At this meeting, you and the Ruffing staff member continue to exchange information about your child and about Ruffing. You and your child will visit with a teacher in a relaxed atmosphere for approximately 30 to 45 minutes.


In most cases, admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis.  Acceptance of a child is based on many factors.  Families will be notified by mail or phone. Accompanying the acceptance letter is an Enrollment Contract which must be completed and returned to the school within ten days.

Waiting List

If there are no openings available for your child, you may request to be placed on our waiting list. You will be notified when a space becomes available.
