March Meeting
The Ruffing Parent Book Club is a place for parents to come together in an informal, relaxed atmosphere, to share our love of reading. It is also a great opportunity to involve our parent community, engage them in insightful discussions and gain new perspectives. Through the year we will meet over breakfast every 6-8 weeks and discuss a range of genres which focus on children and family.
We look forward to seeing many of you – parents and grandparents, new and old faces, on May 14.
Date: Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 9:15am to 10:45am

The wildlife scientist Delia Owens has found her voice in WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING, #1 New York Times Bestseller. It is a painfully beautiful first novel that is at once a murder mystery, a coming-of-age narrative and a celebration of nature. Owens here surveys the marshlands of the North Carolina coast through the eyes of an abandoned child. And in her isolation that child makes us open our own eyes to the secret wonders — and dangers — of her private world.
Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.
Where the Crawdads Sing is about resiliency and survival, but also alienation. In terms of pacing, it is eventful and mostly fast-moving.
